Officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have closed down KiTEA Furniture and Decoration Company located on Spintex Road due to non compliance of the implementation of the Electronic VAT (e-VAT) system.
The company has been given a deadline of two days, specifically by the end of business on Friday, December 12, to resolve the issues, or it may face a complete closure.
This action is part of an enforcement initiative where the GRA inspected five companies as part of its enhanced tax compliance efforts.
Mr. Joseph Adjeikwei Annan, the Assistant Commissioner responsible for Accra Central Area Enforcement, informed the media following the operation, cautioning companies to adhere to the regulations.
“If you believe you can conceal records, I assure you that if I project, you will be compelled to present the records because if I project, the figures will be so substantial that you will find it impossible to pay. Therefore, this serves as a warning to everyone. Should you choose to hide records, your issues will multiply significantly,” he remarked.
Mr. Annan revealed that KiTEA company seems to be failing to fully comply with GRA regulations. “We accessed the system and meticulously tracked the bill to determine the present amount, as it contained various quotations and price amounts linked to that wheel. We cross-verified with the GRA system, and the figure for that identical transaction indicated that they are involved in under-declaration.”
To date, we have inspected five companies. The first location visited was a plastic company owned by a Chinese plastic manufacturer. Regrettably, there were no records available for review.
In the meantime, the GRA has summoned the Manager of the Chinese-owned Aiven Plastic Company Limited, who identified himself as Johnson, to report to its office on Friday, December 12, regarding the alleged selective issuance of VAT invoices.
The enforcement team noted that the last recorded VAT invoice for the company was issued on November 28, 2025.
We summoned him to the office and subsequently engaged a GRA to oversee the situation. It was stated that there are no records of any incidents. We must convey that if you think you can hide records from me, this serves as a caution to everyone. When we arrive and choose to conceal information, your issues will escalate considerably.
In the meantime, Mr. Annan stressed that the GRA will continue with its regular mandate, stating, “what we are undertaking is a national assignment, and we will persist in our daily activities; this is not limited to weekdays, as we are working both night and day throughout the entire week.”
This initiative is part of the GRA’s intensified efforts in tax law enforcement aimed at enhancing compliance.
