VP. Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Pays Heartfelt Visit to GAF Recruitment Stampede Victims
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has paid a heartfelt visit to the victims of the tragic stampede that marred the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at El-Wak Stadium in Accra.
Accompanied by a distinguished delegation comprising Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Gyemfi, Chief of Defence Staff Major General William Agyapong, and Chief of Staff at the office of the vice President Alex Segbefia, the Vice President offered words of solace and encouragement to those affected by the devastating incident.
The calamitous event, which occurred on November 12, claimed the lives of six women and left several others injured, sparking widespread concern and outrage. The victims are currently receiving medical attention at the 37 Military Hospital, where they are being treated for injuries sustained during the chaotic episode.
In a heartfelt statement shared on her social media page, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the medical team at the hospital for their exemplary professionalism and swift response to the crisis.
“I visited the victims of the stampede who are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. I was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Brogya Gyemfi, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General William Agyapong. We spent time with each patient, offering words of encouragement and assuring them of our support as they recover. I commend the doctors, nurses, and medical staff for their swift response and the dedicated care they continue to provide.
Their commitment has been vital in stabilizing the situation during this difficult time. We continue to keep all affected individuals and their families in our thoughts and prayers.”
In response to the tragedy, Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mubarak has announced the postponement of the nationwide security services recruitment exercise, originally scheduled to commence today, November 15, to Monday, November 17.
This decision allows for a comprehensive review of safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
