Gov’t to Unleash Military, Police Force Against Communities Attacking NAIMOS- Land Minister Warns
Government has issued a resolute declaration, vowing to unleash the full might of its military and police forces against any community that dares to assail or impede the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat (NAIMOS).
This stern admonition follows a series of brazen attacks on NAIMOS personnel in Hwediem, Ahafo Region, and underscores the government’s unyielding resolve to vanquish the scourge of illegal mining.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, delivering a forthright address, emphasized that the administration will not be cowed or swayed from its mission to eradicate galamsey, asserting,
“The full force of the military and the police will be brought to bear on any community that attempts to attack or obstruct NAIMOS operations. No threats or intimidation will deter government from winning this fight”.
To bolster the efforts of NAIMOS, the government has earmarked a substantial GH₵150 million to underwrite its operations, epitomizing its unrelenting commitment to curbing the menace of illegal mining.
The Minister’s declaration was made at a high-profile ceremony, where 230 pumping machines, seized from illicit mining operators, were ceremoniously handed over to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for redistribution to farmers, symbolizing a significant stride in the government’s crusade against galamsey.
