Mahama Unveils GHC30.8bn Big Push Agenda in 2026 Budget
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a massive investment in Ghana’s infrastructure development, with the 2026 budget allocating a staggering GHC30.8 billion to the Big Push road construction initiative.
This represents a significant increase from this year’s allocation of GHC13.8 billion, underscoring the government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure growth and transforming Ghana into a key trade hub in West Africa.
Speaking at the Wa Big Push Project sod-cutting ceremony, President Mahama emphasized the importance of quality, accountability, and community participation in ensuring the project’s success.
“To our contractors and engineers, let me be clear: the day of poor construction, inflated claims, and abandoned projects is over. Ghana deserves better. You must deliver quality on schedule and within budget, and the Ghanaian taxpayer must see value in every kilometre of road we construct,” he declared.
He assured that financing would not be an obstacle, with Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson guaranteeing prompt payments to contractors upon certification and inspection.
“Payment is not going to be the problem. If a contractor is not working, it is not because he hasn’t been paid,” Mahama stated.
The Big Push initiative aims to complete ongoing projects and launch new road networks, particularly in the northern transport corridors, positioning Ghana as a major trade hub in West Africa. Residents are urged to support and safeguard the project, with Mahama appealing,
“To achieve success in our communities, I urge you to support the work, protect the materials, and cooperate with the engineers”
