Tempane Border Horror: One Immigration Officer Killed, Another Injured in Late-Night Gun Attack

A shocking gun attack at Nagani, a border town in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region, has left one Ghana Immigration Service officer dead and another seriously injured.

The incident, which occurred around 11:00pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025, involved two officers identified only as Philip and Cosmos.

According to local sources, the officers had closed from duty around 8:00pm but lingered at the office to utilize a stronger internet network due to poor connectivity at their residence.

However, tragedy struck as they set off for home, unknown gunmen reportedly laid ambush and opened fire on the duo.

In a display of remarkable bravery, Cosmos who was armed, attempted to return fire and engage the attackers. He, however, sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

He was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Philip, the other officer, also suffered gun injuries and is said to be responding to treatment.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tempane, Mr. Mbilla Joseph, has confirmed the incident. He disclosed that security agencies have since commenced investigations to hunt down the assailants and unravel the motive behind the deadly ambush.

Meanwhile, calm is said to have returned to the community, although tension remains high among officers stationed along the border.

The Ghana Immigration Service is yet to officially comment on the attack, which has raised fresh concerns over growing insecurity across parts of the northern border stretch.
