Germany’s President Steinmeier Touches Down in Accra for Major High-Level State Visit

Germany’s President, His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, arrived in Accra on Sunday evening to begin a three-day state visit aimed at boosting diplomatic and economic cooperation between Ghana and the Federal Republic of Germany.
He was received on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, together with the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft.

President Steinmeier is in the country with a high-powered delegation and is expected to meet President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, November 3, 2025 at The Presidency for official engagements.
The visit will officially kick off with President Steinmeier inspecting a full Military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of The Presidency. The two leaders will thereafter go into a closed-door meeting before leading their respective teams into bilateral discussions at the Credentials Room.

Talks are expected to focus heavily on consolidating Ghana – Germany relations with emphasis on trade, investment, technology exchange and strategic development cooperation.
A State Luncheon will later be held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in honour of the German President and his delegation.

President Steinmeier is also scheduled to travel to Kumasi on Tuesday where he will pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, before participating in other activities lined up for the visit. He is expected to depart Ghana later on Tuesday evening.
