Jinapor Inaugurates New Energy Commission Board, Calls for Bold and Innovative Leadership

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Board of the Energy Commission in Accra.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Jinapor highlighted the critical role of the Commission in shaping Ghana’s energy future. He noted that the nation is at a decisive moment with major reforms underway, including private sector participation in electricity distribution, the green transition agenda, use of gas as a transition fuel, implementation of the liquid fuel-to-gas swap, competitive procurement of new generation capacity, standardization of PPAs and attracting investment for resilient infrastructure.

“The Commission is the principal advisor to government on power issues,” the Minister stressed, adding that their decisions would be vital in consolidating gains, tackling persistent challenges and seizing opportunities in the power sector.

He further urged the new Board to provide strategic direction, visionary leadership and remain bold, innovative, transparent and committed to good governance.

The newly sworn-in Chairman, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, expressed appreciation to the President for the confidence reposed in the members and assured that the Board’s work would align with government’s key priorities for the energy sector.

The new Energy Commission Board is composed of:

  1. Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi – Chairman
  2. Ing. Mrs. Eunice A. Biritwum – Ag. Executive Secretary
  3. Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah – Member
  4. Mr. Danny Adzei Anang – Member
  5. Ms. Lorm Ama Abledu – Member
  6. Prof. Dr. Ernest Ofori Asamoah – Member
  7. Hon. Naser Mahama Toure – Member
