The Shai Osudoku constituency Zongo Caucus Coordinator branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Abass Tahirou, has launched a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the party of deceiving Zongo communities across the country with empty promises during campaign periods, only to neglect them after securing their votes.

In an exclusive interaction with The Alhajj News at his office on Monday, Mr. Tahirou did not mince words, stating: “The NPP lied its way into the Zongo communities. They came with juicy promises, won the votes of our people and turned their backs on us. We must not forget.”

Mr. Tahirou expressed his disappointment in what he described as political betrayal, noting that many Zongo residents were swayed by unfulfilled promises of jobs, development projects and inclusion in national initiatives. He emphasized that the time has come for the Zongo communities to recognize the party that has consistently stood with them.

He passionately appealed to the Zongo electorate to place their trust in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting, “Zongo is NDC. We have always been and we will continue to be.” He encouraged patience among those still awaiting opportunities under the current administration, assuring them that their turn will surely come.

To strengthen morale and commitment within the party’s base, Mr. Tahirou called on NDC leadership to allocate Hajj pilgrimage slots to the Zongo Caucus. “This will energize the grassroots and help us win back those who have been misled by the falsehoods of the NPP,” he said.

During a separate interview, the Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Royal Ismail Ali, popularly known as Horoya, praised the tireless efforts of Zongo leaders, including Coordinators and Magajiyas, who he said played a crucial role in bringing the NDC back to power.

“We owe a great deal of our victory to the work done by our people in the Zongo communities. Their dedication and resilience made a huge difference,” he said.

Horoya highlighted a number of significant initiatives that the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama has undertaken to uplift Zongo communities. These include the construction of classroom blocks and Islamic schools, the provision of scholarships to brilliant but needy students from Zongo backgrounds, job creation through youth empowerment programmes and improved access to healthcare services.

He reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to the continued development of Zongo communities, emphasizing that the current NDC government remains focused on delivering tangible results.

“Our President, His Excellency John Mahama, has made it clear that Zongos will not be left behind. The vision of inclusivity and development is in motion,” Horoya concluded.

The message from the leadership of the Zongo Caucus is clear: the NDC remains the true political home for Zongo communities and the time has come to reignite the spirit of unity, trust and progress.
