The Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Miintah Akandoh, has reiterated the government’s dedication to tackling persistent issues within the health sector, characterizing the system as one in dire need of reform and shared accountability.
He made these statements during a donation of vital medical equipment and supplies to the Tamale Teaching Hospital on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
The donation comprised a diverse array of equipment, including ECG machines, ICU ventilators, cardiac monitors, anesthesia machines, infant incubators, and essential consumables totaling approximately 35 items. Notable items included Emergency Health Equipment (EHE) sets, nebulizer sets, and medical-grade towels.
The Health Minister recognized the challenging working conditions faced by health professionals and underscored that government initiatives alone would not suffice to address systemic challenges.
He called for solidarity within the health sector and urged all stakeholders, including medical doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, to collaborate in ensuring the efficient use of the country’s limited resources.
He emphasized that the welfare of the average Ghanaian should be at the forefront of healthcare delivery, warning against practices that marginalize the disadvantaged due to resource limitations.
He asserted that every Ghanaian life holds value, and the system must embody this principle in both policy and practice.
Hon. Akandoh highlighted that his leadership philosophy is grounded in humility, collaboration, and respect for all health workers.
While acknowledging that change may present challenges, he maintained that cooperation is essential for achieving sustainable improvements in the sector.
The Minister urged health professionals at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to suspend their strike and reconvene to devise more effective strategies for addressing their concerns through dialogue and collaboration.
