NIA Plans To Disqualify Many People From Zongos – Lawyer Baba Jamal

Former Member of Parliament for Akwatia constituency in the Eastern Region and the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations in the eastwhile Mahama administration, Hon. Baba Jamal has asserted that the National Identication Authority (NIA) is planning to disqualify many people from the zongos, specifically Muslims across the country in the ongoing registration.
According to him, people are been disqualified based on their tribes and not the law.
This according to lawyer Baba Jamal, majority of the people disqualified were from zongos communities.
The former member of the legislature made this known when he was speaking at the 40 days duah of the passing of one of the elders at Nima in the Ayawaso East constituency of the Greater Accra Region on Saturday.
Hon. Baba Jamal has assured the people of his readiness to defend them through legal means and ensure anyone qualified is registere and given the Ghana Card.
As a lawyer, “my law firm will continue to defend all persons from zongos with genuine cases irrespective of the persons status”.
One could be reminded that the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, has warned prospective voters to obtain a Ghana Card since that will be a requirement for voting in the 2024 election.
Speaking in an interview on The Pulse on Wednesday, Dr. Bossman Asare said without a Ghana Card, one will not be registered to vote.

This, he said is because the Ghana Card has made an impact in our society with almost 17 million Ghanaians registered for it.
“Commission in collaboration with our partners took the decision that now let us have the Ghana Card as the main requirement.
“So what this means is that as soon as you acquire your Ghana Card with a continuous registration, you just go to our district office where you are located then you go and register and your name will be put on the roll of voters,” he said.
Meanwhile, NIA has not been able to issue the Ghana card to all citizens citing numerous challenges.
