CBG Cracks The Wipe; Court Grants GIMPA Student Bail, Issues Warrant For Banker

The La Magistrate court has granted bail to a 31-year-old student of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu for unlawful access to stored communication contrary to Section 129(2) of the Electronic Transaction Act 2008 (Act 772).

Per the bail conditions, Senyo Amekplenu was admitted to a bail in the sum of GHc8,000 and would produce one surety who should be known to the police. The surety must also deposit a copy of the Voter’s ID card with the court before the execution of the bail bond.

The court has also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Senyo’s accomplice, Mabel Awovi Ametame, a banker who is currently at large.

Narrating the fact of the matter, Inspector Mohammed Salifu told the court, presided over by Juliet Osei-Duedu that the complainant is a representative of Security and Investigation Department of the Consolidated Bank of Ghana(CBG).

He said the first accused person, Mabel Awovi Ametame is a banker and lives in Ashaiman and the second accused person, Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu is a student of GIMPA and a member of the GIMPA Chapter of Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG).

The prosecution said during the month of April, 2021, the second accused person requested from the first accused person the bank statement of GRASAG-GIMPA from the CBG and first accused person obliged.

Inspector Mohammed Salifu said the second accused person published the solicited bank statement provided by the first accused on the Whatsapp pages of the students’ Association.

He explained that the executives of GRASAG-GIMPA petitioned the board of the bank and a complaint was lodged at the Airport Police Station.

The court heard that the accused person was arrested for investigation thereafter.

According to him, the accused person in his investigation cautioned statement, denied the offence but after investigation, the second accused was charged with the offence and arraigned before court.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge and the matter has been adjourned to September 7.
