Akufo-Addo, Late Amissah-Arthur Conferred With Distinquished Alumni Award

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and the late former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Authur have been conferred with Distinquished Alumni Awards by the Department of Economics of the University of Ghana on Wednesday.

The award was in recognition of the contribution the the development of the Ghanaian economic growth and leadership.

The citation that accompanied the award reads: The Department of Economics, University of Ghana is pleased to present you with the Distinquished Alumni Award.

The governor of Bank of Ghana Dr. Ernest Addison was also awarded with 6 others.

Department of Economics Alumni Congress and International Conference was held at the Cedi Conference Centre, Department of Economics, University of Ghana, on 28th July 2021, under the theme, ‘Contemporary Research on Economic Issues in Africa’.

In his citation: In 2017, you were appointed the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, a position you currently hold.

Your time at the Bank of Ghana has also coincided with major transformation of the financial sector in Ghana. You played an important part in the financial sector adjustment program, which ultimately led to the transformation of the banking sector. You were very instrumental in monetary policy formulation, particularly the introduction of the inflation-targeting regime. In the past few years, you have been at the helm steering the clean-up of the financial sector and providing the steady leadership critical to assuring financial sector soundness and stability.

This award is therefore in recognition of your outstanding professional career and invaluable contribution to the growth and development of Ghana’s financial sector and the economy at large, which have brought honour and prestige to your fellow alumni and Alma Mater.

The six others who received the awards includes Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah of TUC, Prof. Yaw Nyarko, Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku, Ms. Janice O. James, Mrs. Yvonne O. Quanah and Mr. G.K.Tsikata.
