The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for reinstating Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary schools across Ghana – a move the Council describes as “timely, progressive and vital for educational development.”
In an official communique issued on July 17, 2025 and signed by its General Secretary, Gapson Kofi Raphael, the Council praised the President for recognizing the pivotal role PTAs play in enhancing the quality of education, promoting community participation and improving school infrastructure nationwide.
“The reinstatement of PTAs affirms government’s commitment to inclusive and participatory education,” the statement read. “We are particularly grateful to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for swiftly implementing this directive and ensuring heads of schools reactivate PTA activities without delay.”
PTAs in Ghana have long served as key partners in school governance, offering both moral and financial support to complement state efforts. Their suspension in some schools in recent years had drawn criticism from parents and education stakeholders who cited the gap in communication and support structures.
The National PTA Council emphasized its readiness to ensure the renewed operations of PTAs are transparent, accountable, and devoid of any form of institutional manipulation.
“We will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the independence of the parental voice,” the Council stated. “Our goal remains the welfare and academic success of every Ghanaian child.”
The Council also called on all parents, teachers and school heads to collaborate in unity under this revived mandate to drive improved outcomes in Ghana’s pre-tertiary education system.
