NDC Marks John Rawlings’ 5th Anniversary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid glowing tribute to its founder and Ghana’s former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, on the fifth anniversary of his passing.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah, the NDC described Mr. Rawlings as a towering statesman whose “sterling contributions to the development and welfare of our people” continue to shape Ghana’s history and democratic journey.

“For us in the NDC, it has been five long years of mourning and sorrow. We shall always remember him,” the statement noted, emphasizing the deep void left by the former President’s death.

The party also took the opportunity to acknowledge the passing of his wife, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, who, it said, is yet to receive a full state farewell befitting her legacy.

Mr. Essamuah added that the NDC remains inspired by Rawlings’ vision of social justice, probity, and accountability—principles that continue to guide the party’s mission and values.

The statement concluded with a solemn reflection: “Our founder continues to rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord, and his spirit lives on in the ideals he so passionately upheld.”

Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, who led Ghana from 1981 to 2001, is remembered as a pivotal figure in the nation’s political transformation and the founding father of the Fourth Republic.
