The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr. Simon Madjie, has chalked a historic double win for Ghana at the 29th World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) World Investment Conference held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Madjie defeated Zimbabwe’s Investment Promotion Agency (ZIDA) to secure the position of Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa on the WAIPA Steering Committee for the 2025–2027 term, and further earned the global 2025 Excellence in Aftercare Award.

This comes at a time when GIPC is aggressively driving investment inflows through bold initiatives such as the nationwide Investment Opportunity Mapping Project (IOMP), which is profiling bankable projects across Ghana’s 261 districts.

The national effort is also aligned with key government programmes such as President Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy and Export Development Programme and the Big Push Agenda – all aimed at accelerating industrial transformation, stimulating private sector participation and deepening investor confidence in Ghana.

Mandate of Regional Director

As Regional Director, Mr. Madjie will represent and advance the interests of investment promotion agencies in Sub-Saharan Africa at the global level. His role will also include coordinating regional FDI initiatives, championing sustainable investment practices, driving capacity building, facilitating joint missions and contributing to WAIPA’s global strategy and policy advocacy.

Reaction

Reacting to his election and award, Mr. Madjie expressed appreciation to WAIPA members for the confidence reposed in him.

“This recognition is not just an honour for GIPC, but a powerful affirmation of Ghana’s commitment to creating a world-class investment ecosystem. The Excellence in Aftercare award confirms our deliberate strategy of treating every investor as a lifelong partner,” he noted.

He pledged to champion collaborative and transformative investment models to unlock Africa’s collective potential and invited WAIPA members to Ghana’s maiden International Investment Summit slated for August 2026, which will showcase high-value opportunities in agribusiness, renewable energy, digital innovation, manufacturing, tourism, among others.

About the Conference

This year’s WAIPA Conference, themed “Transforming Our World: Investing for a Resilient and Sustainable Future”, spotlighted aftercare innovations prioritizing investor retention and expansion. WAIPA Executive Director, Mr. Ismail Ersahin, praised GIPC’s win, noting that its aftercare framework is now a global reference point for emerging markets.

The event also witnessed the unveiling of WAIPA’s Compendium of Best Practices and cultural performances celebrating Sharjah’s heritage.
