NAIMOS, REGSEC Crack Down on Illegal Mining Network in Oda River Forest Reserve

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) have cracked down on a major illegal mining network operating within the Oda River Forest Reserve. The operation resulted in the arrest of several illegal miners and nine armed impostors masquerading as National Security operatives.

The impostors, clad in khaki uniforms, claimed to be acting under the command of a “Major Jabari.” They were found with a pistol, toy pistol, pump-action shotgun, cartridges, and handcuffs. NAIMOS operatives also foiled an attempt by individuals to bribe officers with GH₵120,000 to secure the release of arrested miners.

The task force discovered a sprawling settlement deep within the forest, with wooden structures and tents serving as operational bases for the illegal miners. These were destroyed to prevent reoccupation. The operation exposed the devastating environmental impact of illegal mining, including deforestation and water pollution.

“No individual, group, or impostor will be allowed to exploit Ghana’s natural resources with impunity,” declared Colonel Dominic Buah, Director of Operations. He praised the joint effort as “a model of inter-agency cooperation and enforcement excellence.” NAIMOS remains committed to protecting Ghana’s forests and water bodies for future generations.

This decisive action underscores the government’s Inflexible commitment to safeguarding the nation’s natural resources and preserving its environmental integrity.
