USA Zongo Caucus Boss Urges Zongo Development Fund to Prioritize Business Support and Infrastructure Growth

The USA branch coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zongo Caucus, Alhaji Abdul-Salam Zebah, has called on the new management of the Zongo Development Fund (ZDF) to channel its focus towards supporting local businesses and improving infrastructure in Zongo communities.

In an exclusive interview with The Alhajj News, Alhaji Zebah emphasized that while the government continues to create job opportunities for the youth, investing in existing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within Zongo areas could provide a more sustainable solution to economic challenges faced by residents.

He appealed to the Chief Executive Officer of ZDF, Alhaji Halidu Haruna, to prioritize loan support schemes for entrepreneurs and the construction of key infrastructure projects that can boost livelihoods

“If we empower existing businesses through accessible loans and improve community facilities, we can expand local enterprises and create lasting jobs for the youth,” he noted.

To ensure transparency and fairness in loan distribution, Alhaji Zebah suggested that the Fund should collaborate with security agencies to conduct background checks on applicants before loans are approved. This, he said, would help prevent misuse of funds and ensure only deserving business owners benefit.

On the issue of affordable housing projects in Zongo communities, the NDC Zongo Caucus boss expressed concern over possible challenges due to most homes being family inheritance properties. However, he proposed that the government could engage in mutual agreements with property owners to allow development while ensuring they maintain ownership stakes.

He further urged chiefs and opinion leaders to play active roles in supporting ZDF’s initiatives, especially in community engagement efforts aimed at promoting inclusive development

“Zongo development should not be left in the hands of government alone. Chiefs, elders and residents must work together to make sure these projects succeed for the good of all,” he added.

Alhaji Zebah’s call comes as expectations grow for the new ZDF leadership to re-energize its mission of driving social and economic transformation across Ghana’s Zongo communities.
