YEA Dismisses Claims of 10-Month Unpaid Salaries, Clarifies Staff Audit and Payments

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has refuted recent media reports alleging that about 300 of its staff across the country have gone unpaid for ten months, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, and signed by the Agency’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Suadique Musah, management said all verified staff have been duly paid up to September 2025.

According to the statement, Mr. Malik Basintale, who assumed office as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in February 2025, has ensured the consistent payment of all employees captured on the approved payroll.

“It is factually inaccurate for any group to allege that the CEO has failed to pay them for ten months when he has been in office for only eight months,” the statement emphasized.

The Agency further explained that upon the new CEO’s assumption of office, a comprehensive staff audit was undertaken to clean up the payroll and ensure that only legitimate employees remained on it. The exercise, YEA noted, was aimed at protecting public funds and not meant to victimize any worker.

“All staff who participated in the audit have been paid accordingly and continue to receive their entitlements,” the statement clarified.

YEA also disclosed that some employees had their contracts expired before Mr. Basintale took office. Management, therefore, directed such individuals to reapply for renewal through their respective directors, adding that those whose contracts were renewed have since been reinstated on the payroll.

The Agency expressed concern over reports of youth hardship and alleged suicide attempts linked to unemployment pressures, reaffirming its commitment to creating sustainable employment opportunities for young people across Ghana.

“At no point has the Agency deliberately neglected its verified staff or failed in its obligation to pay those legitimately captured on its payroll,” the statement stressed.

The YEA assured the public that it remains dedicated to staff welfare, transparency and accountability as it works toward delivering on its core mandate of empowering Ghanaian youth through decent employment.
