Mahama Takes Ghana’s Voice to UNGA 80 with High-Level Global Engagements

President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York, where he is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), set to open on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

The President is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s statement to the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, focusing on key global challenges and advancing Ghana’s foreign policy priorities.

In his capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions, President Mahama will host two important side events designed to strengthen Africa’s role in shaping global economic governance. He will also hold crucial bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, heads of state and other global leaders, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation.

Beyond diplomacy, the President will engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce to deepen trade and investment ties, and make a historic appearance at NASDAQ, where he will ring the famous closing bell to highlight Ghana’s growing appeal as a business and investment destination.

First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama is also part of the delegation and will participate in key engagements. She is expected to attend programmes organized by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and will deliver the keynote address at a special World Vision International prayer service dedicated to the welfare of children worldwide.

The President’s delegation includes senior government officials and advisors, among them Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Trade Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare as well as other top aides and technocrats.

President Mahama and his team are expected to return to Ghana on September 30, 2025.
