President Mahama Fires Corrupt Washington DC Embassy Officials Over Corruption

President John Dramani Mahama in a decisive move to combat corruption, has taken another drastic action through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs against officials at Ghana’s embassy in Washington DC, following the damning findings of a special audit team.

According to a statement released by the Sector Minister, the President has immediate dismissal one Fred Kwarteng, a local staff member in the embassy’s IT department. Kwarteng was found to have created an unauthorized link on the embassy’s website, diverting visa and passport applicants to his company, Ghana Travel Consultants (GTC), where he charged extra fees without approval from the ministry or parliament.

The audit team’s investigation revealed that Kwarteng’s illegal charges ranged from $29.75 to $60 per applicant, with the proceeds being kept in his private account. The President’s swift action demonstrates his commitment to transparency and accountability in government institutions.

The special audit team’s findings and Kwarteng’s own admission of wrongdoing led to the President’s decisive action, showcasing the government’s determination to root out corruption and ensure that public officials act in the best interests of the people.
