Radio Clampdown: 57 Stations Face Suspension

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern warning to radio stations in breach of regulatory requirements. A total of 57 stations face suspension of their frequencies, affording them an opportunity to rectify their infractions before resuming operations.

On Monday, March 24,hon.George revealed that three of the six recently suspended stations would have their frequencies reinstated shortly.

He clarified that the suspension aims to prevent media houses from exploiting press freedoms to justify non-compliance with licensing conditions.

Mr.George emphasized that the suspension is a necessary measure to ensure media houses adhere to regulations. “We cannot permit a situation where media houses flout regulations, citing press freedoms as a justification for non-compliance,” he stated.

He assured that the suspension would provide the affected stations an opportunity to rectify their anomalies. Three of the six stations suspended in the first phase have submitted the required documentation, and George will authorize the restoration of their frequencies accordingly.
