COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno sworn in as new IGP
President Mahama has appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Ghana’s new Inspector General of Police, tasking him with modernizing the police force.
President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Ghana’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Jubilee House, following the revocation of the appointment of former police chief, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
COP Yohuno’s appointment was announced in a press release signed by the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
The statement read:
“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police.”
The release also emphasized that COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the role, with an expectation to lead the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service.
