Interior Minister Advocates for Upgraded Equipment for Ghana National Fire Service

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, has announced plans to improve the operational capabilities of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) by upgrading its outdated equipment, which he described as critical for effective fire prevention and emergency response.
During a facility inspection at the GNFS headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, the Minister expressed concern over the challenges firefighters face due to aging vehicles. He noted the frustration that arises when the public holds firefighters accountable for delays or malfunctions during emergencies.
“My doors are always open for your ideas and suggestions. I have full confidence in your abilities and will work with you to enhance operations and improve service delivery,” Hon. Muntaka reassured the personnel.

He emphasized the need for intensified fire prevention initiatives, advocating for increased public education, stricter enforcement of fire safety regulations, and closer collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The Minister also expressed enthusiasm for the launch of Fire Service TV, a new platform aimed at promoting fire safety awareness, and pledged his support for its operations.
Earlier, Chief Fire Officer Julius Aalebkure Kuunuori addressed the media, outlining several challenges facing the GNFS, including inadequate manpower, attacks on firefighters, housing shortages, infrastructural gaps, budgetary constraints, and the need for a suitable corporate headquarters.
“We are confident that you will use your influence to help resolve some, if not all, of our issues,” he stated.
