Ghana has over the weekend joined its neighbors in Togo and Benin to marks the beginning of same roaming service and to enjoy local rates for calls, texts and internet access when traveling between these countries.

in the ever-evolving technological landscape, innovation remains key to staying afloat, and entreated the free roaming will provide its customers with accessible, safe, affordable and reliable network always.

“In today’s fast-paced world, access to reliable and efficient communication is not just a luxury; it is a necessity for socio-economic development”, he added.

Acheampong noted that expanding access to communication infrastructure would create opportunities for economic growth and social empowerment for the underprivileged in society.

“Telecommunication is central to Ghana’s digitization goals. It plays a pivotal role in shaping the modern society because it connects people and empowers communities”. He noted.

The free roaming service extends to internet access, which is billed at local rates, although users cannot purchase new data plans while roaming.

This initiative follows Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire’s implementation of community roaming in June 2023, marking a significant step in ECOWAS’ regulation on roaming across public mobile networks within the region.
