Automobile Dealers Appeal To EOCO For A Special Code To Detect The Alleged Stolen Vehicles

The Chamber of Automobile Dealers Ghana are appealing to government to refund the monies paid for duties on the vehicles seized by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to help dealers stay in business.

According to them, the EOCO on December 9, 2022, raided some garages and seized 37 imported luxury vehicles suspected to be stolen from America, Canada and Korea.

Speaking at the sidelines of a stakeholder’s engagement with the security agencies on Tuesday, General Secretary of the Chamber, George Dumenu described the affected dealers as victims.

“This is frustrating, all our resources have gone to waste so the government should come to our aid and if possible, all the monies we have paid to customs be refunded to us” he lamented.

Meanwhile the CEO of the Erata Motors Mr. Eddie Kusi Ankomah was optimistic that if the government put a total ban on salvaged car it will rather affects many Ghanaians who cannot afford brand new car purchase.

The rational behind is to avoid carnages on our roads.

According to him, the seizures of alleged stolen cars is affecting the automobile dealers in Ghana.

He appealed to the EOCO to develop some code that can help identify a stolen vehicle and also call for a refund of their clearing monies.

The association is aware of the custom amendment bill which was in a floor of parliament for some time now.
