Don’t Burden Ghanaians With Wasted National Cathedral Contribution – Prof. K. Botchway

The longest Serving Minister of Finance, Prof. Kwesi Botchway has advised the AkufoAddo administration to spare Ghanaians the burden of contributing to the building of national cathedral.
He said building national cathedral was not the immediate priority of the ghanaian populace to win them out of the current economic hardship.
According to him, Akufo-Addo must not worsen the plight of the already burdened Ghanaians with his supposed convernant with God to put up a cathedral.
“If you made a covenant with God that you will build a cathedral, that should be your own private burden and not the people’s burden”, he posited.
Adding, he said that “building national cathedral as one of the promises made to God by president Akufo Addo should be private activities, the land must be a private one and all funds must not come from the public purse”.
Prof. Kwesi Botchway was speaking to thealhajj.com in an interview after his take on “DC Happy Hour” series organized by Development Challenge office in Accra last Friday.
He therefore advised that instead of the cathedral the president should have built people’s park where different types or artisans would learn skills.
The Former Finance Minister who was speaking on the theme “Consolidating Democracy for Accelerated National Development”, also touched on the need for the government to initiate policies that would be beneficial to the opposition parties.
For him, this would ensure continuity and national growth.
