In a statement released in Accra by the Zongo Caucus ahead of the commission of the National Mosque tommorow, the National Cordinator of Caucus Alhaji Mamah Cole -Younger, urged the President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice President to do the needful of not crediting the project to their failed administration.

The statement commended various groups and individuals that played pivotal roles in ensuring the completion of the project.

Below is the full statement:

The National Zongo Caucus of the NDC wishes to congratulate the Muslim Community of Ghana on the successful completion of the ultramodern National mosque complex at Kanda, Accra and ready for commissioning on Friday the 16th of July, 2021.

It will be recalled that the NDC government under the leadership of the late President, Jerry John Rawlings replaced the present day Rawlings park land with that of the the current national mosque site at Kawukudi to enable the Muslim community to construct a befitting National Mosque complex.

Several attempts to get the mosque completed by the Ghanaian Muslim community was not without difficulties until the Turkish Gov’t through a Turkish NGO came in to facilitate its completion.

It is sene qua num to salute the National Chief Imam- under whose supervision the work was started and completed. We cannot forget the role played by the concerned Muslim Youth Association of Ghana, both past and current executives and all those who contributed in diverse ways to seeing to the completion of this historic complex.

It is the wish of the National Zongo Caucus of the NDC that the management team of the New National Mosque complex will imbibe the culture of maintenance to preserve this magnificent edifice.

We however want to reiterate our caution to president Nana Addo and his vice Bawumia NOT to attempt to take any false credit for the construction of this mosque as the records available does not support that claim. The NPP Govt played no role in this.

Once again, congratulations to all Muslims and may Allah bless us all.

Salamualaikum.
